Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora Bring Arthurian Legend to the Present Day with ONCE AND FUTURE

Once and Future is a new six-issue comic series on its way from BOOM! Studios. It is written by Kieron Gillen with art from Dan Mora, and I’m excited. It’s going to bring parts of Arthurian lore to present day. Here’s a quick synopsis:

Once and Future sees the resurrection of a villain from Arthurian mythology in contemporary Britain, leading a former monster hunter out of retirement alongside her grandson, a museum curator.

Ever since I read some of Go Go Power Rangers, I fell in love with Mora, and I have high hopes for anything coming from BOOM!. Gillen said this about creating Once and Future:

I’ve been chewing over how the classic explorer adventure serial could operate in the 21st century for a while. [Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, Gillen’s Marvel series] transplanting the genre to space was one conclusion. Once and Future is another, taking a genre whose core has barely changed since the 19th century, and updating it for the now. Adventure, romance, supernatural horror and too much bloody research, as always.

Once and Future will be launched in August.
