Killer Poster Art For THE BURBS - “Your Friendly Neighborhood Watch”
As a massive fan of Joe Dante’s The ’Burbs, I absolutley love this poster art titled “Your Friendly Neighborhood Watch” by Cryssy Cheung, created for Hero Complex Gallery.
The 1989 horror-comedy has always been one of my all-time favorites with its perfect mix of dark suburban paranoia, ridiculous humor, and creepy charm that only Dante could pull off.
Cheung captures all of that energy in one great image that sees the evil Klopeks digging the graves of their suspicious neighbors, with them lying in the graves.
The sepia color palette gives it this eerie, vintage vibe, while the exaggerated shadows and overhead perspective add that sense of comic doom the movie does so well. The way Cheung arranges the characters, each buried in their own hole, feels like a sly nod to the movie’s theme of suspicion eating everyone alive from the inside out.
This limited-edition 18x24 print (only 100 made!) has that perfect balance of dark humor and suburban madness.
The ’Burbs has always been that underappreciated gem that reminds us how weirdly terrifying our neighbors can be… and this artwork captures that spirit beautifully.
