Kiln is a Companion App for Any Tabletop RPG
There are a lot of companion apps for Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop games. Well, Kiln is a new one coming to the field via Kickstarter and it definitely has my attention. First, it has a visual character sheet that lets you create an avatar for your character. This is always fun. Of course, it’s also limited in the ways that characters can look since you have to abide by predrawn art, but you can typically find some cool stuff anyway. Second, it has item and spell management that lets you edit items, add stories, or even just rewrite spells in simpler terms. There are two things that I think will really draw people in though.
One of those things is that it appears to have a simple to use encounter builder and ways to interact with characters in-app. The other thing that will draw people in is that Kiln is system agnostic. You can load pre-made templates for character sheets to match popular TTRPGs or you can even build your own custom character sheets. With some work, you can use this app for any game.
Of course, I do want to note that Kiln will have a subscription after it launches next year (assuming it gets funded). There will be a free version as well with severe limitations in place as well, but the subscription will unlock more character slots, more character design options, and even community content sharing.
What do you think of Kiln as a TTRPG companion app?
