KINGDOM HEARTS: MISSING-LINK Leak Has Fans Scrambling to Connect It to KINGDOM HEARTS 4
It's been a long wait for Kingdom Hearts fans. The last mainline adventure launched back in 2019, and ever since then players have been trying to piece together where Sora's story goes next after the mysterious ending of Kingdom Hearts III and its story expansions.
Part of that missing puzzle was supposed to come from Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link, the mobile game that was expected to help connect the events of Kingdom Hearts III to Kingdom Hearts IV. Unfortunately, Square Enix officially canceled the project in 2025 before fans ever got to experience it.
Now, the game has suddenly found its way back into the conversation after what appears to be leaked footage from its opening cinematic surfaced online. Fans are already pulling apart every frame, trying to figure out whether it's the real deal and, if it is, what it reveals about the future of the franchise.
The video hasn't been verified, so there's still plenty of debate over whether it's an authentic leak or an incredibly convincing fan-made creation. Either way, it paints a fascinating picture of where Kingdom Hearts may have been heading.
The cinematic opens with a group of mysterious figures, their identities hidden beneath futuristic space suits, traveling through a portal into a massive black void. Waiting for them is an enormous Heartless lurking in the darkness. Rather than hesitate, the explorers draw their Keyblades and launch into battle, combining swordplay with powerful magic to bring the creature down.
Once the monster is defeated, the darkness clears to reveal what looks like a modern city. That's where fan theories really start to take off. Some believe it's Quadratum, the realistic world teased for Kingdom Hearts IV. Others think it could instead be Scala ad Caelum, one of the major locations introduced in Kingdom Hearts III.
Nothing in the footage provides concrete answers. We don't know who these Keyblade wielders are, why they're exploring this strange place, or what exactly they're fighting. That mystery makes the footage even more interesting, especially knowing that Missing-Link will never be released.
If the cinematic is authentic, it also hints at a surprising shift in the series' visual style. Kingdom Hearts has always blended fantasy, Disney magic, and anime-inspired character designs, even when introducing advanced technology. Organization XIII may have carried futuristic-looking weapons, but the series always leaned heavily into magical fantasy.
This footage feels different. The explorers' sleek space suits, their ability to traverse dangerous corrupted environments, and even the use of booster packs all push the series toward a much stronger science fiction aesthetic.
That lines up with what fans already noticed in the first Kingdom Hearts IV reveal, where Sora appeared far more realistic than in previous games.
If Missing-Link was laying the groundwork for Kingdom Hearts IV, then Quadratum may have been intended to become much more than simply another world to visit. It could have represented a major evolution for the series, introducing more advanced technology alongside its familiar Keyblade action.
The footage even raises the possibility that Sora and the other Keyblade wielders could eventually use similar suits themselves. If that happens, exploration and combat could take on an entirely different feel, almost giving parts of the series a Death Stranding-style atmosphere as characters navigate hostile environments while using futuristic gear and flight systems.
For now, though, fans are left with more questions than answers. Whether this cinematic is genuine or not, it's sparked plenty of discussion throughout the Kingdom Hearts community.
If it does turn out to be authentic, it offers a fascinating glimpse at ideas that may have survived the cancellation of Missing-Link and found their way into Kingdom Hearts IV.
Until Square Enix decides to show more of the next chapter, fans will keep dissecting every clue they can find and wondering just how different the future of Kingdom Hearts might actually be.
