KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE 2 Is Being Pushed Forward

There's been some talk of a Kingsman: The Secret Service sequel for awhile now, and earlier this year we learned that 20th Century Fox started the process of developing that sequel. Things have gotten really serious now, and the studio is, in fact, going to move forward with the film.

Taron Egerton is the young star that got his big break in the first movie. He's a rising star who found himself in the middle of dueling projects that want him. He is set to star in both Linosgate's Robin Hood: Origins and Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman 2. Both of these films would shoot around the same time, and according to THR, "Vaughn exercised his option on the actor, meaning that Kingsman 2 was going ahead no matter what, throwing Robin Hood: Origins temporarily into a loop."

Vaughn and the studio are obviously looking to push Kingsman 2 forward in the near future, especially if they are pulling this option card on Egerton. The plan is to shoot the sequel in April of 2016. Lionsgate will wait for Egerton to finish Kingsman 2 before they start shooting their Robin Hood movie.

In previous interviews with Vaughn, we've learned that the sequel would introduce American Kingsmen. We've also heard that there's a chance Colin Firth could return. I have no idea how that would work, but if they find a way to do it... awesome! Talking about the sequel, the director said:

"You wouldn't believe what we've got in store. Poor Mark Strong will be going on a journey that he never imagined. And we've got this idea to introduce the world to the American branch of the Kingsman.
“A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment. If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back.
“The sequel will be ‘This is the modern-day gentleman spy.’ Because Harry [Firth's character] isn’t. Harry even says, ‘There is a reason why we’ve developed weak chins.’ He said that meaning, ‘Look at us, we need to get new blood into this system,’ and that’s what Eggsy [Taron Egerton] is. I joke that we’ve made the prequel to the Eggsy movie.”

I loved the first movie, and I really hope that Vaughn actually does come back to direct it. I think he's one of the only directors who could pull off that kind of badassery that we saw in the first movie. The last we heard, he was considering returning to direct it. He said:

“I’m in love with these characters and I want to work with them again so I’ll probably be breaking the rule of [me] tending not to make sequels.”

In regards to Firth's possible return, comic book writer Mark Millar recently told IGN:

"That’s the conversation everyone’s having right now, because part of what made that movie work is Colin. Colin’s fantastic, it was a two-hander, that film. You also want to have the integrity of the story, so if you are bringing him back, it has to make sense. That’s where it is at at the moment. Beats of the story have been done. [Screenplay co-writers] Matthew [Vaughn] and Jane [Goldman] are working on it at the moment. Some things have to be worked out, some decisions have still to be made and everything, so it’s all fairly amorphous, but all going well."

I'm excited that this sequel is moving forward. I was really hoping that it would. It sounds like Vaughn is planning something big with it. I can't wait to see how this sequel turns out!
