Kirsten Dunst Joins the Cast of MINECRAFT MOVIE 2 as Alex

Actress Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man, Fargo, Roofman) has joined the cast of the untitled Minecraft Movie sequel from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary.

Dunst will play Alex, one of the primary avatars available to players of the Minecraft video games from Mojang Studios, upon which the films are based. She joins a cast that includes the returning Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Matt Berry, and Jennifer Coolidge.

While the sequel’s plot is being kept under wraps, the first film introduced viewers to four misfits — Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers) and Dawn (Brooks) —  who find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.

To get back home, they must master this world, and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black).

Their adventure challenges all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.

The first film was a ton of fun, and a huge box office success. Minecraft 2 is set to hit theatres on July 23, 2027.
