Koei Tecmo Reveals 5 New Characters and New Mechanics for FAIRY TAIL

Koei Tecmo recently revealed a little bit more about their upcoming title Fairy Tail. The game will take place across the Tenrou Island arc through the Tartaros arc with some original episodes sprinkled in. In the game, you’ll be able to have up to five mages in your party, and fights will happen on a 3x3 grid. Different moves work in this grid differently, meaning that you’ll have to pay attention to how everyone is positioned for a swift victory. In addition, as your mages deal damage, the Fairy Gauge will fill up allowing for Magic Chain attacks that involve each party member attacking before a finisher is unleashed. It’s even possible for characters like Makarov to show up in these moments.

Sometimes, your mages will be struggling and need some help. Well, in these instances, there’s a possibility to “awaken dormant abilities” that will drastically increase their powers. I assume this is like in the anime when Natsu gets his butt kicked, but because he’s the main character, he’s able to suddenly overcome the bad guy even if it would’ve made more sense for a different character to do it. Different mages will have different abilities at this point and possibly even new attacks. For example, Dragon Slayers will get Dragon Force. Other mages will go under a Mode Change that will feature a wide variety of new battle options. Also, some mages can use Unison Raid attacks which are mighty combination attacks.

On top of the reveal of these mechanics, it was also revealed that five more characters will be joining the roster of Fairy Tail’s playable characters. These five hail from the other guilds of Fiore and include Sherria Blendy from Lamia Scale, Kagura Mikazuchi of Mermaid Heel, Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki from Blue Pegasus, Sting Eucliffe from Sabertooth and Rogue Cheney from Sabertooth.

Fairy Tail will launch in Spring 2020 for Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4.
