Konami Reveals More Info for YU-GI-OH! Remote Duels

A while ago, Konami talked about launching a Remote Duel initiative that would feature an official way for Yu-Gi-Oh! players to compete with each other. Now, we have more details. The first thing to note is that Konami is letting local game stores run tournaments as they see fit. These stores (called Official Tournament Stores or OTS by Konami) will be holding tournaments in four different categories:

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME

The terms of the tournament including prizes and entry fees are up to the discretion of the OTS as long as they meet local, state, and federal government regulations. So, how will this work?

Well, OTS locations will organize the tournaments, and players will compete in the tournaments they want. It’s pretty simple. If you want to play in Duel Links, you’ll need to make sure your software is up-to-date and you’re STAGE 4 to access the PVP Arena. If you prefer Legacy of the Duelist or Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution, those require all competitors to be on the same platform (Konami really needs to make this game cross-platform) and on the same version of the game (the two games cannot play together). Then, one player will need to serve as Host and ensure the rules match any stipulations set by your OTS. Finally, how do you play with your real-life physical collection? Well, it’s simple. You just need something like a webcam or smartphone set up in a manner so that your opponent can clearly see your field.

So, what can you get for participating in these Remote Duel tournaments? Well, Konami is keeping a lot of the rewards secret for now, with future announcements including giveaways and more. However, they have revealed that there will be ways to obtain exclusive Secret Rare versions of United We Stand and Guardian Angel Joan!

You can find the list of participating OTS locations online and contact your local game store and see if they’ll participate. What kinds of tournaments are you looking to join?
