KPOP DEMON HUNTERS Smashes Netflix Records With Over 132 Million Views

The animated action-fantasy film KPop Demon Hunters has officially become the most-watched original animated movie in Netflix history, and it pulled it off in less than two months.

After premiering on June 20, the film didn’t exactly explode out of the gate, drawing just over 9 million views in its opening weekend, but things quickly escalated. Within three weeks, viewership skyrocketed to 80.3 million. As of now, it's sitting at a jaw-dropping 132.4 million views, pushing it past Leo, the previous record-holder that featured Adam Sandler as a talking tuatara.

At the center of it is the high-energy story of Huntr/x, a K-pop girl group who moonlight as demon hunters. Using their voices as mystical weapons, these idols protect humanity from supernatural threats. But when a rival demon-powered boy band, the Saja Boys, hits the scene, things get wild.

The cast includes Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo as the members of Huntr/x, alongside Ahn Hyo-seop, Joel Kim Booster, Daniel Dae Kim, and Ken Jeong.

The film was co-directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, whose previous credits include Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Princess and the Frog, and Puss in Boots.

The movie isn’t just winning over audiences with flashy visuals and catchy K-pop beats , it’s also a critical hit. It’s currently holding a 97% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 92% audience score to match.
