Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, And Idina Menzel Score Massive Deals For New FROZEN Sequels
Disney is pushing full steam ahead with its expanding Frozen universe, and three familiar voices are officially locked in for the next chapter.
The Wrap is reporting that Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, and Idina Menzel have all signed on to return for both Frozen 3 and Frozen 4, and the numbers behind these deals are seriously eye opening.
Frozen has been a powerhouse for Disney since the original film hit theaters in 2013. Between Frozen and Frozen II, the franchise has cleared more than $2.7 billion at the global box office, not to mention an avalanche of merchandise and theme park presence. So it’s not surprising that the studio is investing heavily in its returning stars.
The reported payday for the actors for the next two sequels sits “north of $60 million,” which shows how valuable these characters and performances are to the studio. It's impossible to picture anyone else stepping into the roles of Anna, Olaf, and Elsa.
Frozen 3 has been in development since 2023 and is scheduled to hit theaters on November 24, 2027 after being delayed from 2026.
Jennifer Lee is directing the third film following her departure as Chief Creative Officer at Walt Disney Animation Studios. While story details remain mostly under wraps, fans have plenty to speculate about.
At the end of Frozen II, Anna became the Queen of Arendelle while Elsa chose life in the enchanted forest. Where their paths lead next is still a mystery.
During D23 Expo 2024, Disney unveiled the first piece of concept art showing Anna and Elsa on horseback staring up at a city suspended in the clouds while a dark figure hovers nearby. The image sparked tons of fan theories, but Disney isn’t elaborating on it yet.
All three returning stars have stayed busy outside of the franchise. Bell has been leading the Netflix comedy series Nobody Wants This, which launched its second season this fall and already has a third on the way.
Gad is deep into production on Spaceballs 2, which he both stars in and co wrote. Menzel recently wrapped her run as the lead in the Broadway musical Redwood, performing from January to May.
By the time Frozen 3 arrives, it will mark eight years since Frozen II. With these massive contracts now in place, it’s going to be interesting to see if Disney accelerates development on Frozen 4.
That could shift how the story of the third film unfolds and how the franchise evolves from here. And beyond the Frozen movies, Walt Disney Animation Studios is also working on its upcoming fantasy feature Hexed for next year.
