Krysten Ritter Doesn't Think We Will See THE DEFENDERS Season 2
Marvel has been doing some exciting things with their Netflix series. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Punisher have all been great! Iron Fist still needs a little work. When most of those characters came together for The Defenders, I thought they did a solid job. I enjoyed it, but I wondered if we would see these characters all come together again to face a new threat. According to Krysten Ritter, she doesn't think it will happen.
While speaking with Vulture about Jessica Jones season 2, the critical reception of The Defenders came up, and that's when she said she doesn't think Marvel is going to do another Defenders season.
"Well, I think Jessica was pretty well received. People were excited to see her again, so that made us happy because Jessica is the next up. Y’know, I had a great time doing The Defenders and honestly, it was such a good experience that I would even do it again. I don’t think we are doing it again. It was never intentioned to do it again, but, you know, if I was given another opportunity, I would. My heart is with my show because of the subject matter and because of the great drama that we get to do and the personal issues that we explore. For me, that is more the type of content that I enjoy as a viewer and as a performer. My heart is in Jessica Jones, but I did have a great time doing The Defenders with the guys. We had a good time. It is what it is."
I thought that maybe they would treat The Defenders like The Avengers and bring them all together every once in a while when they are needed to take down some big bad villain, but I guess that's not the case. It's interesting to learn that Marvel never intended to do a second season of The Defenders.
I'm not really disappointed by the news. As long as Marvel keeps telling great stories with these characters I'll be happy! It also doesn't mean that we won't be seeing these characters interacting with each other. For example, we know that Iron Fist will be showing up in Luke Cage Season 2 along with Misty Knight and Claire Temple.
