According to a recent report from Kessel Run Transmissions' Corey Van Dyke, Lucasfilm is in the process of planning to develop a new Star Wars series or film that will put a focus on Kylo Ren.

Ren’s story came to an end in The Rise of Skywalker, so if this is a legit project, it would have to tell the backstory of the character. The following information was shared on Twitter:

“We’ve heard Ben Solo is a character Lucasfilm wants to further develop. We don’t know if this is a series or movie, but it’s definitely being worked on. We also don’t know if this is pre TFA or post TROS, but if I were to guess I’d say pre TFA. Again, this is in early development.”

The report goes on to say that there’s no word on if Adam Driver will be attached to the project. I seriously doubt he would come back to reprise his role in the franchise, so this could end up being an animated series, and/or it could focus on a much younger Ben Solo.

This is the part of the report that kind of throws it all off for me. They say:

“The big thing here is LFL is very aware of Ben’s popularity and they do want to continue his story in some form. This is the other sequel trilogy character that we’ve been hearing about for months.”

Is Ben Solo/Kylo Ren really a popular character with the fans? I personally have yet to meet someone that is a hardcore fan of Kylo Ren. But, maybe they are out there?

There was a Kylo Ren comic that was released before The Rise of the Skywalker came out that offered some back story on the character. If this news is true, I assume they will go back even further in his timeline. If Lucasfilm is going all the way back to his childhood, then an animated series would probably work best.

Who really knows what’s going on though. This is just a rumor and there may not even be a Kylo Ren project in development. Regardless, would any of you be interested in a standalone Kylo Ren project?
