LA LA LAND Director Damien Chazelle Teams With Netflix For Musical Series Called THE EDDY

La La Land director Damien Chazelle is set to develop a new musical series for Netflix called The Eddy. Chazelle, who got his big break with the amazing film Whiplash, will direct two episodes int he series. This will be his first venture into the TV space.

The eight-episode series is set in contemporary multicultural Paris, “and it "revolves around a club, its owner, the house band, and the chaotic city that surrounds them. The series will be shot in France, and will feature dialogue in French, English, and Arabic."

The series will be scripted by Jack Thorne (Star Wars: Episode IX) and the music and score will be created by Glen Ballard, who is behind Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill” and Michael Jackson’s “Bad”. The series will also be executive produced by Alan Poul (Six Feet Under, The Newsroom).

When talking about the project, Chazelle said:

"I’ve always dreamed of shooting in Paris, so I’m doubly excited to be teaming up with Jack, Glen and Alan on this story, and thrilled that we have found a home for it at Netflix."

Erik Barmack, Netflix’s VP of international originals, explained that the show would explore "the relationship between the American and French-Arab co-owners of a jazz club." It will also feature French actors, crew members and possibly even French helmers directing some episodes. He then went on to say that the atmosphere and tone would fall “somewhere in between the movies Whiplash and La La Land", which isn't surprising due to obvious reasons.

I love the magic that Chazelle brings to his films and I hope he is able to bring that to this new series. If he does, there's no doubt it will be another hit.
