L.A. Readers: Celebrate Career of Makeup Legend Rick Baker With Screenings, Q&A, and Art Show This Weekend
Here's a last second heads-up for those of you who are in the Los Angeles area today and tomorrow: Hero Complex Gallery, one of the coolest pop culture art galleries in the country, is holding a two-day event celebrating the career of makeup legend Rick Baker. The seven-time Oscar winner is the guy behind the makeup effects in movies like An American Werewolf in London, Videodrome, Michael Jackson's Thriller video, Men in Black, Hellboy, and many, many more, and he retired earlier this year at the age of 64.
Tonight (Friday, October 23rd) at the Aero Theatre American Cinematheque in Santa Monica, there's going to be a double feature of two of Baker's favorite projects he worked on: Ed Wood and Harry and the Hendersons. The first movie begins at 7:30pm, and Baker will be there to participate in a Q&A with moderator Dana Gould in between films.
Then tomorrow (Saturday, October 24th), the celebration continues at the Hero Complex Gallery with an art show paying tribute to Baker's work, and the man himself will be on site along with a few pieces of his original artwork on display. Get more details right here.
The art tribute will be on display through November 1st, so even if you can't make it out this Saturday, you should definitely stop by and check it out later. Here's some of what you'll see:
