Lady Gaga Finally Opens Up About Playing Harley Quinn in Upcoming Sequel JOKER: FOLIE À DEUX

Warner Bros. and DC Studios are closing in on the release of Joker: Folie à Deux, the follow up to director Todd Phillips’s Academy Award-winning 2019 film Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix. Phoenix is back in the title role, which earned him an Oscar for best actor, and Lady Gaga stars as Harley Quinn.

Gaga has stayed quiet about her role in the movie since being cast, but she has finally spoken out about her take on the role in a recent interview with Access Hollywood (via CB), in which she said:

"You know, Lee is very special to me. She's a really vulnerable, sweet person. My version of Harley is mine, and it's very authentic to this movie and these characters. I don't want to give anything from the movie away. I think it's really something you have to experience in the theater. This film has music, it has dance, it has amazing acting in it. I love working with Joaquin [Phoenix]. I love working with Todd [Phillips]. What I will say is that I've never done anything like I've done in this movie before, so it's all going to be completely brand new and really fun."

Little is known about the actual plot for Joker: Folie à Deux other than it is reportedly a jukebox musical set around Arkham Asylum.

Director Todd Phillips said at CinemaCon that calling the movie a musical was not exactly correct. “I like to say it’s a movie where music is an essential element,” Phillips said. “It doesn’t veer too far from the first film. Arthur has music in him. He has a grace to him.”

The supporting cast includes Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, Steve Coogan, Ken Leung and Harry Lawtey.

Joker: Folie à Deux will hit theaters on October 4th, exactly five years after the release of the first film.
