LANTERNS Episode 7 Teaser Sees Hal Jordan Trying to Solve His Own Murder
Things are getting pretty interesting in Lanterns as Hal Jordan is about to help investigate his own murder.
Following the sixth episode, “Bad Optics,” HBO Max released a teaser for the penultimate episode of the DC series, and it puts John Stewart together with a younger projection of Hal Jordan as they attempt to figure out exactly who killed the veteran Green Lantern.
Episode 6 ended with John summoning the late Jordan’s “Halogram,” giving him an unexpected new partner for the investigation. The Episode 7 teaser shows the two working the case together, which creates the wonderfully strange situation of Hal essentially trying to solve his own murder from beyond the grave.
Of course, getting answers in Rushville isn’t going to be easy. The town is still carrying the scars of the destruction that hit it ten years earlier, and its residents aren’t exactly going to be eager to cooperate with a pair of Green Lanterns asking questions.
“Bad Optics” also brought Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner back into the story. The Firefly alum recently talked about his Lanterns role and explained why Guy operates very differently from Hal Jordan and John Stewart.
“Guy is very concerned about brand and corporate sponsorship; he has financial goals. He wants to open a bar, he has retirement plans; he’s not a dummy.
“I think he’s TikTok literate, he understands trends. I think he’s done more than one dance or two,” Fillion says with a laugh. “That’s part of his schtick. He wants to not just be Green Lantern, but a famous Green Lantern.”
That feels completely on brand for Guy Gardner. Saving the universe is great, but apparently so are sponsorship deals, retirement plans, and making sure everyone knows exactly which Green Lantern did the saving.
His abrasive personality is a huge part of what makes Guy fun, especially when he’s bouncing off characters like John and Hal.
With only two episodes remaining, though, the bigger question is Hal Jordan’s murder. John now has a version of Hal helping him piece together what happened, Rushville still has plenty of secrets, and Episode 7 looks ready to push the investigation toward some major answers before the season finale.
