LANTERNS Season Finale Teaser Reveals Intriguing New Footage of Sinestro and Hal Jordan
HBO Max has dropped another teaser for this Sunday’s Lanterns season finale, and while the new footage is brief, there are a couple of shots that could offer some big clues about where the story is headed.
With James Gunn strongly indicating that Lanterns will continue beyond this season, the finale has plenty of questions to answer while potentially opening the door to whatever comes next.
The latest promo leans heavily on glowing quotes from critics, but it’s the fresh footage mixed in between them that’s worth a closer look.
There’s a shot of Sinestro, who appears to be a prisoner, with someone dunking his head underwater. The obvious question is whether John Stewart is responsible and attempting to force information out of the former Green Lantern.
Of course, things might not be that straightforward. “Bad Optics” established that the planet John and Hal(Ogram) traveled to has been flooded with a gas capable of causing hallucinations.
That makes it entirely possible that the apparent Sinestro interrogation isn’t actually happening, or at least isn’t happening the way we’re seeing it.
The teaser saves its most interesting new shot for the end, where the real Hal Jordan is shown incapacitated and confronting his mysterious captor. Rather than asking who has him, Hal asks what his captor is. That choice of words is interesting.
Based on Zoe’s conversation with her grandson in Episode 5, combined with the additional attention the character received last week, Noah Macon looks like a strong possibility for the person Hal is confronting.
Even if Noah is holding Hal captive, that doesn’t automatically make him responsible for Jordan’s death. The previous episode introduced another disturbing possibility involving “The Jordan Boys Legacy,” suggesting that Hal may ultimately be the person who pulls the trigger.
That leaves the Lanterns season finale with plenty to untangle.
