LANTERNS Will Now Premiere After SUPERGIRL, According to New DC Update

It looks like DC’s Lanterns might not be leading the charge into the next phase of the DC Universe after all. According to a recent update, the highly anticipated Green Lantern-focused series could now be arriving after Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow hits theaters.

The discovery came via the Green Lanterns Podcast, which noticed that The Hollywood Reporter mentioned the release order change earlier this month while discussing Peacemaker Season 2. The outlet’s newsletter stated, “The finale will mark the last of the Gunn-verse we'll see until June's Supergirl.

Curious about that timeline, the podcast reached out for clarification, and THR reportedly confirmed that Lanterns is now expected to drop after Supergirl.

This marks a small but notable adjustment from what James Gunn and Peter Safran originally outlined back in February. At the time, it was reported that Lanterns was aiming for an early 2026 release window. With Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow set for June 26, 2026, it looks like the cosmic detective series may have been nudged a few months later on the calendar.

That said, this shouldn’t necessarily be viewed as a delay. Lanterns never had a confirmed release date to begin with, and DC Studios hasn’t made any official statements about the schedule. So for now, it’s all still in flux, and it’s possible the timeline could shift again.

The series stars Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, two Green Lanterns caught in a tense dynamic that explores legacy and leadership.

Showrunner Chris Mundy offered some insight into that relationship, saying, “Our show is in a lot of ways about replacement – when should someone step aside and when is it time for the next person to take the reins?

“That push and pull between those two characters is really important. So much of the power that John has is by not taking the bait, understanding that you lose your power if you’re yelling and screaming.”

Whenever Lanterns finally lands, it seems like a lot of fans are excited to watch it.
