Larry David Cancels His HBO Documentary Hours Before Its Release

Larry David, of Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm fame, was scheduled to have his two-part documentary released on HBO this week, but fans were surprised to see that the writer, actor, and comedian pulled the doc just hours before it was set to premiere. The Larry David Story — in which David has a wide-ranging conversation with longtime collaborator Larry Charles — was scheduled to premiere Tuesday night on HBO. On Monday evening, however, HBO Documentaries tweeted that the documentary was being postponed, writing that, “Larry has decided he wants to do it in front of an audience.”

There was no other statement on the project. The doc’s trailer on YouTube was made private Tuesday morning. It showed snippets from David and Charles’ conversation about David’s stand-up career, Seinfeld and Curb, and David reflecting on his luck in the comedy business.

Whether the finished film, which Charles also directed, will ever see the light of day is unclear at the moment. There’s also no word on when David and Charles might redo the interview in front of a crowd. This move really makes no sense, and it feels more like David must have had a falling out with someone or something. It’s like an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm!

Hopefully fans get some clarification, or they just release the thing one day. I was looking forward to watching it.
