Lashana Lynch Confirms She Is the New 007 in NO TIME TO DIE

Last year, rumors starting flying that Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel) would be the next 007. Well, in a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Lynch confirmed that she will in fact be the first Black female 007. She will play Nomi in the upcoming No Time to Die film set to celebrate the 25th film in the James Bond franchise, and her character becomes 007 while Bond is in exile. Lynch said that she wanted to make sure that Nomi was a real person:

A character that is too slick, a cast-iron figure? That’s completely against what I stand for. I didn’t want to waste an opportunity when it came to what Nomi might represent. I searched for at least one moment in the script where Black audience members would nod their heads, tutting at the reality but glad to see their real life represented. In every project I am part of, no matter the budget or genre, the Black experience that I’m presenting needs to be 100 per cent authentic.

The movie is being directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, and in the story, “Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.” That technology will reportedly be based on genetic warfare.

The movie also stars Daniel Craig as Bond, Rami Malek as the villain Safin, Lea Seydoux is playing Madeleine Swann, Ralph Fiennes is back as M, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, and Ben Whishaw as Q, with Rory Kinnear as Tanner, Christoph Waltz as Blofeld, and Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter. New cast members include Dali Benssalah, Billy Magnussen, and David Dencik.

I thought Lynch did a great job in Captain Marvel, so I’m excited to see her in No Time to Die when it releases in April 2021.
