Laurence Fishburne Talks Turning Down JUSTICE LEAGUE and Says Marvel Is Kicking DC's Ass
Laurence Fishburne has a valid explanation why Perry White won't be in Justice League, and it looks like he's aiming for us never seeing him again! The actor gave an interview to the LA Times (via CBM) and said his not being in the film simply came down to conflicting schedules:
"They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise...And really, what do you need the newspaperman in Justice League for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern."
He makes a fair case, then drops a statement that is sure to reignite the rivalry between Marvel and DC fans for a couple days. The actor then took the time to address Batman v Superman in a fairly critical way:
"We’ve been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever."
While Fishburne does say Marvel is kicking ass, he states that he is, in fact, a fan of Zack Snyder and Batman V Superman:
"Look, I love what Zack Snyder does. Jesse Eisenberg, this little nebbishy guy, as Lex Luthor? For me, that’s a genius move. And the whole thing with Martha Kent and Martha Wayne? I don’t know, man, I must be sentimental but that’s some heartwarming [stuff] to me. So I don’t get it."
I didn't think the Martha stuff was heartwarming, and as far as I know the line was widely meme'd as one of the corniest bits of the movie. Sounds like Fishburne liked it though, but I wonder how DC is reacting to his quotes about Marvel. What would you think the odds are that we see him in another DC film?
