Learn to Paint Miniatures with Will Friedle on PAINTERS GUILD Now on YouTube
Here at GeekTyrant, we’ve been talking a lot more lately about the popular game Dungeons & Dragons. Maybe you’ve heard of it. Maybe you’ve seen some of the posts we’ve done on the subject. Maybe you’ve even started playing the game. Well, one aspect that some (not all) players dive into is the use of miniatures. It’s not uncommon for players to look for (or even create) a miniature that embodies their character whether to just show off how cool your character looks, or to use on a battle map. Of course, when you buy a miniature, it’s usually plain white or grey and not very cool, which leads people to have a desire to paint their miniatures. Now, it should be noted at this time that D&D and other tabletop RPGs are not the only games that involve miniatures. Some board games like Mansions of Madness include minis as well as larger games like Warhammer 40,000.
If you’re new to painting things like miniatures, it can seem like a daunting task. It can take quite a bit of time, patience, and creativity, but it can also be a lot of fun. Now, I’m nowhere near being an expert on painting miniatures, but there’s a video series that is there to help. The series is Painters Guild from Geek & Sundry, and it features Will Friedle being taught how to paint miniatures by his friends like Matthew Mercer. The show originally aired on the streaming service Project Alpha, but last week the videos started being posted on YouTube for free. Right now, the first two episodes are available, and I’ve learned a lot. If you’ll excuse me, I have to go find a mini to paint.
