Leatherface Is Back and Ready to Murder in Teaser Trailer for TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE

“In 1974, the world witnessed one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of American history. In 2021, the face of madness returns.”

Netflix has released the first trailer for Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which will serve as a sequel to the original 1974 Tobe Hooper-directed classic. The movie comes from produce Fede Alvarez and director David Blue Garcia, and it looks like they’ll deliver a nightmarish horror film.

This movie “returns to the roots of the Hooper and Kim Henkel creation that was considered one of the scariest films of its era, even though most of the splatter was implied and not shown.” It’s explained that the film “seeks to pick up where the Hooper and Kim Henkel film initially left off, bringing the most notorious horror franchise back to life in the same bold and provocative manner that it was first introduced to the world.”

The movie stars Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher, Nell Hudson, and Jacob Latimore as a group of friends who make the mistake of traveling too far away from the big city.

When previously talking about the film, Alvarez said, "Me and Rodo Sayagues really wanted to make sure we don't disappoint the fans, and we are [among them]. So it's pretty hardcore. But at the same time it has the simplicity of that first film. We wanted to come up with a very simple premise [with] a powerful domino effect. Everything is set up in the right place — all you have to do is push the first domino and everything will happen effortlessly."

Álvarez went on to explain, "I think the first movie really hit a nerve when portraying that culture clash between the countryside and the city. Back in the '70s, the hippies were representing the youth of the city. This time, they're more like millennial hipsters from Austin who are very entrepreneurial and have a dream of getting away from the city and back to the countryside. They're trying to gentrify small-town America — and let's just say they encounter some pushback."

The producer went on to offer some insight on the return of Leatherface sayin, "It's basically the same character, who is still alive. Our take on it was this guy probably disappeared after everything he's done. You know, how do you catch a guy who has a mask? Once he removes the mask and runs away, it's very easy for him to hide somewhere. This story will pick it up many, many years after the original story. He's been in hiding for a long, long time, trying to be a good person. These people arriving in this town are going to awaken the giant."

Texas Chainsaw Massacre drops on Netflix on February 18th. Watch the trailer and tell us what you think!
