Lee Pace and Jared Harris Have Joined Apple's Isaac Asimov Series FOUNDATION
Lee Pace and Jared Harris have been cast in the lead roles of Apple TV+’s upcoming Isaac Asimov series Foundation. These are two talented actors who have done some great work over the years and this is going to be a great project for them to be a part of.
Asimov’s Foundation was originally published as a short story series for Astounding Magazine in 1942. The story chronicles the saga of The Foundation, “a band of exiles who discover that the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it.” The complex saga tells the story of humans that are scattered on planets throughout the galaxy, and all of them are living under the rule of the Galactic Empire.
Harris is set to take on the role of Hari Seldon, “a mathematical genius who predicts the demise of the empire.” He’s also been described as "a psycho-historian” who sets out on a journey to “save the knowledge of mankind from being wiped out." As for Pace, he will star as Brother Day, “the current Emperor of the Galaxy.”
David S. Goyer, who has worked on several DC film projects over the years, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Here's the description from the first book:
For twelve thousand years the Galactic Empire has ruled supreme. Now it is dying. But only Hari Sheldon, creator of the revolutionary science of psychohistory, can see into the future--to a dark age of ignorance, barbarism, and warfare that will last thirty thousand years. To preserve knowledge and save mankind, Seldon gathers the best minds in the Empire--both scientists and scholars--and brings them to a bleak planet at the edge of the Galaxy to serve as a beacon of hope for a fututre generations. He calls his sanctuary the Foundation.
But soon the fledgling Foundation finds itself at the mercy of corrupt warlords rising in the wake of the receding Empire. Mankind's last best hope is faced with an agonizing choice: submit to the barbarians and be overrun--or fight them and be destroyed.
Are you excited about seeing Asimov adapted into a series by Apple? This has the potential to be an epic series and I hope that they do the story justice.
