Just a couple of days ago I was visiting my mom and we were watching The Rock. We were talking about how awesome Sean Connery was in the movie and some of the other films he made. I mentioned how I missed seeing Connery in the movies and how cool it would be to see him appear in one more film before he died. Then this morning, I wake up to a text from my mom telling me that Sean Connery has actually passed away!

Wow… today we lost a true cinematic legend. He was 90-years-old when he passed and he left behind an epic legacy of films. He is probably best known for the James Bond films that he starred in and many fans still consider him to be the best Bond.

Some of my favorite films of his include The Man Who Would Be King (1975), Time Bandits (1981), Highlander (1986), The Untouchables (1987), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt For Red October (1990), and The Rock (1996). He appeared in so many other films over the course of his career, but these are the ones that I love, my all-time favorites.

His death was confirmed by his family, and according to the BBC the actor died in his sleep while in the Bahamas. It’s believed he had been unwell for some time. His last acting role had been in The League of Extraordinary Gentleman (2003).

In a statement, James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said Connery “was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words, ‘The name’s Bond… James Bond.’ He revolutionized the world with his gritty and witty portrayal of the sexy and charismatic secret agent. He is undoubtedly largely responsible for the success of the film series and we shall be forever grateful to him.”

Connery was such a great and badass actor and I’ve already missed seeing him appear in the movies since he retired, but he’s really gone now. There’s no chance of seeing him appear in one more movie like I was talking to my mom about. This is a sad day.

Sean Connery is survived by his second wife, painter Micheline Roquebrune, whom he married in 1975; his son by Cilento, actor Jason Connery; and a grandson from Jason’s marriage to actress Mia Sara.
