Legendary Adapting Popular Chinese Webcomic I'M A KILLER MAID Into TV Series
Legendary Entertainment is teaming with Tencent Pictures to bring the popular Chinese webcomic I’m a Killer Maid to the U.S. in the form of a TV series. Variety describes the comic as “Mary Poppins turned John Wick“ adventure with shades of Freaky Friday and Killing Eve, and shares that the show plans to touch on topics of “gender identity and expression, male/female dynamics, and genre deconstruction.”
After retiring from the assassin group “Mountain Sea,” lead character Bacai tries to live a normal life as a housemaid for a shy, nerdy comic book writer who rarely leaves his house, only to accidentally swap bodies with her boss.
Variety explains that the webcomic was previously adapted into a “64-minute, straight-to-streaming 2017 adaptation from Tencent and iQiyi” that was not as “woke” as this new version, aimed at U.S. audiences, will try to be. I’m not familiar with the original content, but it sounds like it has a pretty big fanbase, so it should do well as an adapted series.
