Legendary and Sony Give STREET FIGHTER Movie a 2026 Release Date Despite Losing Directors
Legendary Pictures and Sony Pictures have announced that their live-action Street Fighter movie will be released in theaters on March 20th, 2026.
The news comes about a week after we learned that Talk To Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou left the project over scheduling issues. So regardless of the movie not having a director attached, the studio now has a date to work towards.
There are no details regarding the film, but we know that it will see a bunch of Street Fighter characters fighting each other, and we can only hope that the fight sequences are incredibly badass!
Whoever comes on board to make this movie has the opportunity to make an awesome action movie where they could be really inventive with the fight sequences and try some new and unique things.
The first Street Fighter movie was released in 1994, and even as a kid, I remember thinking, “What in the hell was that!?” Then in 2009, there was the film Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, which was forgettable.
I would love nothing more than to see Legendary produce a great Street Fighter movie filled with some insane action, but we’ll just have to wait and see if they are able to bring in the right creative team to take it on.
