Legendary Comic Book Artist Alex Ross is Launching Superhero Painting Series as NFT
Comic book artist Alex Ross has created a ton of incredible superhero art for both Marvel Comics and DC Comics over the years. His work is freakin’ incredible and I’m sure many of you own some of the comic books and art that he’s created over the years.
Well, the artist is making the move into the NFT (non-fungible token) market and he is launching a superhero painting series as NFT.
I don’t know if you’re familiar with NFTs, but they have become a super popular digital trend, and it allows for the sale of digital content that doesn’t have a tangible form. NFT technology allows collectors to purchase and store digital works, tracked with blockchain technology, while ensuring artists retain recurring royalties.
I’ve been doing a lot of research on this to educate myself on how it works and it’s pretty fascinating to see what the future of digital art is.
The series that Ross is creating for this is backed by the technology company Otoy, and it’s titled “Shooting Up the Mainstream” and it “serves as a permanent digital archive of the artist’s lifetime of work.”
“Shooting Up the Mainstream” was created in 2000 and it’s the first painting Ross made to portray his own original superhero universe, which he has been developing.
OTOY founder and CEO Jules Urbach said in a statement:
“For over a decade we have been developing graphics and computing technologies that have democratized 3D content creation, enabling artists from around the world to create 3D works on par with a Hollywood studio and bring virtual worlds to life. Blockchain NFT technologies are further revolutionizing the media and entertainment landscape, enabling creators to create a shared repository for their creations that can grow over time, enabling them to experiment with emerging AR and holographic media technologies.
“As one of the most imaginative and prolific living artists, we are excited to partner with Alex in creating an archive for all forms of his works from paintings and prints to next generation immersive Augmented Reality (AR) and fully holographic experiences.”
As popular as Ross is with fans, I imagine he is going to find a lot of success in the NFT market and make a lot of money.
