Legendary Confirms Plan to Have DUNE Be Two Films

The latest adaptation of Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve, is currently filming, and Legendary seems to have high hopes. In a recent interview with THR, Joshua Grode who is the CEO of Legendary was asked if Dune would end up being two movies and he responded positively.

That’s the plan. There’s a backstory that was hinted at in some of the books [that we expanded]. Also, when you read the book there’s a logical place to stop the movie before the book is over.

At the moment it appears Villeneuve is only shooting the first film right now with the idea of waiting to see how well the first one does before doing the second. The question is, will dividing the novel into two movies be the key to creating a fantastic adaptation?

Dune’s cast includes a lot of stars including Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Timothée Chalamet, David Dastmalchian, Rebecca Ferguson, Stephen Henderson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Charlotte Rampling, Stellan Skarsgård, and Zendaya. The first film is currently slated for release on November 20, 2020.
