Legendary Pictures Developing Adaptation of the Video Game ETERNAL CHAMPIONS with Screenwriter Derek Connolly
The ‘90s video game franchise Eternal Champions is set to be adapted into a feature film by Legendary Pictures, with Derek Connolly (Kong: Skull Island, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) attached to write the script.
David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will produce for Skydance, alongside Toru Nakahara for Sega. Rob Ree will executive produce, with Aimee Rivera overseeing the project for Skydance.
Eternal Champions was originally released in 1993, and it’s a fighting game set in “a dystopian future where nine fighters from different time periods and backgrounds are resurrected by an enigmatic entity known as the Eternal Champion.”
The game’s story centers on a tournament where only one fighter can win the chance to change their fate and prevent their untimely death.
This is one of the many fighting games that I enjoyed playing when I was growing up. It was a lot of fun, but it’s also one of the few classic games that never went beyond the 16-bit era of gaming.
It will be interesting to see if this movie actually ever gets off the ground. It’ll be interesting to see the direction they take the story and how the film will look visually.
