Legendary's Reboot of THE TOXIC AVENGER Will Be Written and Directed By Macon Blair
Actor Macon Blair (Blue Ruin, Green Room) has been hired by Legendary Pictures to direct their reboot of the 80’s cult classic The Toxic Avenger.
This is apparently a high priority project for Legendary. I have no idea if Blair is a good director or not. He recently directed the film I Don’t Feel At Home in This World, which I haven’t seen. But it’ll be interesting to see what he ends up doing with The Toxic Avenger.
The original film told the story of a bullied janitor who becomes a mutant superhero after falling into a vat of toxic waste and transforms into a radioactive hero. After the transformation, he stands up to bullies and corruption with irreverent zeal.
The film has become a successful cult movie, but I wonder if audiences are ready for this grotesque mutant hero to make a comeback.
Over the years, there were reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger was offered a role in the film back 2013. John Travolta was even rumored to be up for a role at one point. Kevin Smith also previously talked about how he was offered the opportunity to direct the reboot, and he ended up jumping on board but eventually dropped out over budget issues.
Are you looking forward to seeing this reboot of The Toxic Avenger?
