LEGO Godzilla Unleashes Over 5,300 Pieces of Kaiju Fury, But That Monstrous Price Might Hurt
The King of the Monsters is getting the LEGO treatment, and this beast is going to take a serious bite out of your wallet. After making an early appearance in stores thanks to a few leaks, the massive LEGO Godzilla set has officially been revealed, bringing one of cinema’s most iconic monsters to life in brick form.
Standing an impressive 27.5 inches (70cm) tall and made up of more than 5,300 pieces, this thing is an absolute monster of a display piece. It captures Godzilla preparing to unleash his devastating atomic breath, complete with bright blue dorsal spines that give him an awesome radioactive appearance.
The design takes inspiration from the 2019 film Godzilla: King of the Monsters, specifically the moment when the legendary kaiju charges up his atomic breath. This isn't the classic Toho Godzilla or the creature from Godzilla Minus One. It's the modern Monsterverse version, with the film's influence even highlighted on the back of the LEGO box.
This enormous LEGO Godzilla set started as a fan creation. It's part of the LEGO Ideas collection, which turns community-submitted designs into official products after they receive enough support. The original Godzilla concept earned the required 10,000 votes, giving fans the chance to bring their favorite radioactive monster to LEGO shelves.
However, the finished model looks noticeably different from the original submission. The fan design featured Godzilla in a more aggressive, hunched-over stance, looking ready to tear through a city. LEGO opted for a more upright pose that emphasizes the monster charging his atomic breath.
That creative change has divided some fans, especially after leaked images started circulating online. Some preferred the original creature's more intimidating posture, while others have warmed up to the official design. The electric-blue spines are easily one of its strongest features, adding some much-needed color to the enormous gray monster.
Of course, building a LEGO Godzilla this massive comes with a monstrous price tag of $449.99. At over 5,300 pieces, it's clearly aimed at serious LEGO collectors and hardcore Godzilla fans rather than anyone looking for a casual weekend build. You're also going to need a pretty generous amount of shelf space to display this beast.
For collectors planning to pick one up, LEGO is also offering a special gift with purchase featuring Godzilla's logo against a ruined cityscape, complete with a gigantic footprint. It's a fun little bonus that fits the destructive personality of the legendary kaiju.
The LEGO Ideas Godzilla set, officially numbered 21375, launches on November 27 and will be available through the LEGO store.
I would've loved to see LEGO stick closer to the original fan design's more ferocious pose, but there's still plenty to like about this finished version. The atomic breath effect looks great, the size is ridiculous in the best possible way, and having a giant Godzilla towering over your other LEGO collectibles sounds pretty damn cool.
Now comes the difficult part: convincing yourself that you need a 5,300-piece radioactive lizard in your house.
