Leonardo DiCaprio Set to Produce the Film Adaptation of CAPTAIN PLANET
The classic 1990s animated series Captain Planet has been on the road to a live-action feature film adaptation for years. The project is being set up at Paramount Pictures, and they are teaming up with Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way Productions to bring it to life.
If the deal comes together, DiCaprio will serve as a producer on the film, and the studio will hire Sons of Anarchy scribe Jono Matt and Scream Queens star Glen Powell to write the script.
I was never a big fan of the original series, but it follows five teens from North America, Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia, and South America. They are given powers by the Earth spirit, Gaia, so they can protect the planet from the devastation of evil polluters. When their powers aren't enough, the teens come together and summon Captain Planet.
According to inside sources, the story for the film "takes place years after the adventures of the show, with the Captain now a washed-up has-been who needs the kids more than they need him."
Sounds like the kind of film that DiCaprio would want to be a part of because the guy is a huge "save the planet" kind of guy. Even though I was never really into the series, I'm kinda interested in seeing how this movie turns out.
As of this moment there are no directors or actors attached to star in the film.
