Leslie Mann Is Headed to TV in Thrilling Sci-Fi Dramatic Feminist Series Adaptation of THE POWER
Leslie Mann is mostly known for her roles in comedy films like Big Daddy, Knocked Up, This is 40, 17 Again, and Blockers, but she is now headed to the small screen to star in the series The Power at Amazon. The dramatic thriller is based on the sci-fi feminist book by Naomi Alderman. The Handmaid’s Tale’s Reed Morano is set to direct and executive produce.
Deadline provides the following description of the story:
In The Power, all teenage girls in the world develop the power to electrocute people at will. It’s hereditary, it’s inbuilt, and it can’t be taken away from them. Coming alive to the thrill of pure power: the ability to hurt or even kill by releasing electrical jolts from their fingertips, they rapidly learn they can awaken the Power in older women. Soon enough nearly every woman in the world can do it. And then everything is different.
This is extremely thought-provoking. It makes me imagine this world where women can walk alone at night, jog with headphones, and say no to a man, all without fear. It sounds amazing. Of course it’s not all cut and dried, and would also be used for dark purposes, but would certainly level the playing field, and even tip it in women’s favor for the first time in history.
I’m definitely interested in checking it out. I love Leslie Mann, and The Handmaid’s Tale is one of my favorite series of all time, so I am betting this will be a great and interesting series that will get people talking.
