Let This Hallucinatory Stop-Motion Short Film IMAGINATION Wash Over You
Hearing Gene Wilder sing "Pure Imagination" in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has always been one of my favorite parts of that film, and a remix of that song provides the score for a new short film called Imagination from PermaGrin Films. It's a stop-motion project that attempts to take viewers back to the innocence and uninhibited creativity of childhood, trying to recreate that special feeling that anything is possible.
As children, we viewed the world through the lenses of our imaginations. The carpet became lava, the shadows formed monsters, the family minivan was a spaceship. But the older we got, the more reality set in, and soon we forgot the magic our minds could create. We invite you to step back into your childhood and take a look through the lens once again. PermaGrin Films presents "Imagination" as part of the Dream Music series.
I'm aware that too much nostalgia can be a bad thing and we're experiencing more of it than ever at this point in our culture, but even removing that aspect from this short, it's still impressive on a technical level. If you're interested in how it was made, you can watch a behind-the-scenes video below:
