Let's Talk About ALIENATED #3
Alienated has turned out to be very different than I originally expected. It has really gone for the drama. I know I’m a little late, but I finally read Alienated #3 and it’s an intense issue. If you haven’t read it yet, you can get it now from your favorite comic retailer including comiXology. The comic is written by Simon Spurrier, illustrated by Chris Wildgooose, colored by André May, and lettered by Jim Campbell.
The issue starts out with what we saw in the preview, but it then starts spiraling like crazy. Chip ends up pulling up a look on Craig who used to date Samantha. Sam then blocks out the other two Sams for privacy and this is when we learn Sam’s story. Apparently, she used to be pretty popular and then one night at a party she and Craig did the devil’s tango and she ended up getting pregnant. He and her other friends then promptly abandoned her and we find out that Sam put the kid up for adoption.
Sam spends the majority of the issue basically torturing Craig’s mind for revenge. However, in the end, Sam goes to where their child is and its happiness gets her to snap out of it and she has a change of heart. In fact, she has Chip erase the memories of the torture Sam just put Craig through from Craig’s mind but keeps them in hers. This whole adventure gets Sam to believe that Chip is more alive and more like a child than a tool.
Meanwhile, the police think they got a bit more of a lead on what’s happening with the kids who are going brain dead. You know, the ones that Chip attacks and puts in comas. At the very end though we learn that there must still be some kind of connection between these victims and chip as he starts chanting “Sam” and the girl in the hospital starts saying “Sam.” WHAT!?
