Let's Talk About DUNCANVILLE Episode 6 - "Sister, Wife"
Duncanville’s sixth episode hopefully put an end to my least favorite storyline. Before we talk about that though, this is your warning that spoilers are ahead. You can catch new episodes of Duncanville on Fox Sunday evenings with episodes available the next day on Hulu.
In the episode, Duncan and Jing pretend to get married, but in the end Jing seems to see that she’s far too young for that kind of relationship. Hallelujah! I did not care for that little storyline that they introduced in the first episode and it looks like we won’t have to deal with it anymore. Before the wedding, we do see some fun moments of Duncan and Jing just hang out as he babysits her and it’s really fun to watch them bond. I just hated the story of Jing wanting to marry him.
That storyline was the worst part of the episode though. Kimberly has potentially my favorite storyline. She’s feeling like everyone forgets and/or ignores her because she’s the middle child. She then goes out with the goal of doing something that makes people remember her. During all of this her parents continually forget about her in the car or in conversation and it’s pretty funny. She goes and tries attacking a police car, but instead of detaining her, the officer just asks where she got her shoes so that he can sound like he pays attention to his daughter. She then finds Pennywise (yes, the clown from IT) and he refuses to abduct her. It’s very well played out and a lot of fun to watch.
The third storyline is all about Jack and Annie who begin to think they’ve lost their spark. It’s their anniversary and they go out doing the things they enjoy like getting air filters, watching paint dry (I really laughed hard at that joke), and the like. They stumble upon an 80s themed bar though and they start to feel like their youth was returning.
They then have a problem when a guy hits on Annie and Jack doesn’t deck him, but they sort it out. We see this story happen in a few shows, but it’s really funny to see the things that Jack and Annie do and how it reminds me of some couples I know and how happy they are as well as Jack and Annie. Jack and Annie only started having problems because others started saying they did. Now, this isn’t anything particularly new in Duncanville either. Back in “Undacuva Mutha” Duncan asks Annie about why she and Jack don’t kiss and it’s a very deep moment. This feels like a more humor filled look at that same concept and it’s handled well in my opinion.
