Let's Talk About GO GO POWER RANGERS #29

Go Go Power Rangers #29 was released today, and I feel like not a lot happened, but it was very good at setting the future up. In case you haven’t read the issue yet, this is your warning that spoilers are ahead. If you like digital comics, you can even purchase the issue over on comiXology now.

I’m going to skip what we saw in the preview, but right after we have Zordon and Jason talking about Tommy’s potential as a leader. Zordon seems a little hesitant but hopeful, and Jason is doing his best to be positive. It’s a little weird having Zordon be hesitant like this with decisions. He’s always so definitive and positive about everything! Of course, it doesn’t help that the rest of the team (minus Tommy) are worried that the shift in leadership isn’t going great. Zack especially seems to be worried after they barely defeated a teapot monster. This is warranted, but I do think Zack is maybe worrying too much. Kim does bring up a great point, though, about how Tommy is still trying to figure out the White Light powers and now he has to figure out how to be a leader.

Meanwhile, Squat and Baboo were able to get a crystal with plans for Promethea for Lord Zedd. This makes Zedd happy as he tries planning how to get into a part of the station that is not in the data recovered. He calls Finster to create a monster for the job. Later, when Finster shows up with the Hodgepodge Hedgehog, Zedd isn’t impressed and starts his normal yelling at Finster. This makes Squat and Baboo feel pretty good about themselves. Zedd then tests the Hedgehog, who proves he’s a bit more capable than originally thought. I will say, this monster looks pretty vicious. I’d hate to have to face that thing. It’s definitely something to worry about.

Going back to the Rangers, Jason is trying to help take care of his dad who refuses any and all help. Meanwhile, Billy, Kim, and Trini are talking about the peace conference for high school students and how it sounds pretty cool. I was wondering about this honestly. In the show, Jason, Trini, and Zack go to the peace conference but are never heard from again. However, in Necessary Evil, we know that they say they’re going but instead go to be the Omega Rangers. I really am curious how they’re going to play that off. Are they going to fake winning entry to the conference or something? Will they be part of the conference but not actually go? I guess we’ll find out in the next three issues.

Jason, Trini, and Zack then leave the others behind, saying that they’re going scuba diving (possibly a reference to us seeing them doing just that in season 2 of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers before they transferred their powers?), but instead go aboard the ship of the Blue Emissary and Xi. Their mission is explained a little bit more at this point, and they’re shown how these crazy signatures are popping up all over the universe. They get to sift through and find the good guys and the bad guys. They go to their first one and who should they see but Kiya being chased by her own people.

I wonder how much longer we have until the power transfer occurs and they become Omega Rangers. We know that at this point they have zero clues as to who their replacements will be. My guess is that it’ll happen in the final issue of GGPR. I’m also curious to see when the attack on Prometheus is going to happen. Will it be part of GGPR or is it yet to happen in MMPR? Man, I wish the show had dived into this kind of stuff more.
