Let's Talk About GODZILLA VS. KONG - A Film Filled with Stupid Fun which is Exactly What I Expected
I watched Godzilla Vs. Kong knowing exactly what to expect, the whole point of the movie was to watch a giant gorilla and giant lizard fight each other. That’s it! If the story and script ended up being good, that would have been a bonus, but in the end, this movie was all about watching Godzilla and King Kong battle it out, and in regards to that the movie was a success!
We see these two titans clash in the most epic ways, and we watch them brutally beat the hell out of each other leaving all kinds of death and carnage behind them as they destroyed a fleet of ships and an entire city. There was so much collateral damage! So many innocent people died during their fight, and Hong Kong was complete destroyed in the process! It’s funny because near the end of their climactic battle, every time one of the titans smashed into a building I was surprised that there was a building actually still standing!
There were some great fights between the two in the film! I had a huge smile on my face during these scenes, there is a clear winner in the fight, but I won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t seen the movie. But, if you did see the movie, it’s really the only way it could have played out. But then Mechagodzilla joined the battle! Hell yeah! Seeing Mechagodzilla in action in this film was super freakin’ badass! Mechagodzilla certainly gave Godzilla and Kong a run for their money.
This was the only reason I wanted to see and director Adam Wingard sure did do a great job showing us how an epic battle between Godzilla and Kong would play out. But when it came to the human characters and the story… what in the hell was that shit!? Once again, for some reason, the filmmakers don’t know how to tell a cohesive story or what to do with the human characters. There are so many stupid, laughable, and ridiculous moments over the course of the film, and I didn’t like one human character in the movie. The only way to watch the movie is with a group of people so that you can joke around about how the ridiculous of the story.
The only Monsterverse movie that Legendary Pictures really got right with a good solid overall story and character development was the first Godzilla movie. Kong: Skull Island was ok, but Godzilla: King of The Monsters and Godzilla Vs. Kong didn’t really know how in the hell to build a good story around the titan battle royale. It’s bloody shame, because while the film was fun and entertaining, there is a way to tell a great story as well! For some reason, the creative talent just couldn’t crack it.
There’s so much regarding the story of the movie and how it plays out that makes absolutely zero sense. It’s like the characters are living in a world of complete stupidity where common sense and thinking things through doesn’t exist. It’s hilarious! I mean, if they meant for these aspects of the film to be a comedy, they totally succeeded! I didn’t care for any human character in this movie, almost every scene involving these characters were eye rolling moments. It was so stupid but also so much fun to make fun of and joke around about while watching the movie. It definitely has the makings one of those “so bad it’s good” kind of films.
Regardless of the film’s faults, again, I didn’t go to see this movie for the story. I went to watch Godzilla and Kong fight, and the film ended up being exactly what I expected it to be and I enjoyed it for what it was.
