Let's Talk About MIGHTY MORPHIN #1

Mighty Morphin #1 is now available from writer Ryan Parrott and artist Marco Renna with colors by Walter Baiamonte who was assisted by Katia Ranalli. This is the first of the split comics to release, and it has quite a bit of juicy stuff for fans to enjoy. If you haven’t read it yet, you can grab physical copies from your local comic shop or digital copies through outlets like comiXology.

Two New Series, Two New Teams - The UNLIMITED POWER Era Begins HERE- but who is the NEW Green Ranger and are they friend... or foe? Superstar writer Ryan Parrott (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and rising star artist Marco Renna send the Mighty Morphin team on a collision course with an even deadlier Lord Zedd, who has a new mission and a new motivation - one that will change everything you thought you knew about our heroes! But even if the Mighty Morphin team can all find a way to survive Zedd and their mysterious new enemies, they may discover the greatest threat to their future is the shocking secret of Zordon's past! The next big epic begins here, perfect for longtime fans and new readers alike.

This comic starts off showing us a bit of Eltar and Zordon’s past. We see the Hartunians invading and then once their enslaved troll is set free, it turns on them and chases them away. Well, we then meet Zophram, Zartus, and Zordon. It appears that Zordon was maybe a bit more aggressive back in the day. I’m very intrigued to see how this gets fleshed out.

We then have all the Rangers, Zordon, and Alpha trying to figure out who this mysterious new Green Ranger is. We know that Billy knows, but he’s saying he doesn’t know anything. I personally like Rocky’s theory about Ernie being the Green Ranger. Adam is the one who says that it’s obviously Drakkon since the security cameras all went down for the exact amount of time that the Green Ranger was helping the Rangers. Alpha is a little perturbed it seems that whoever the Green Ranger is, is smarter than them. Tommy and Matt meet, and it’s not the warmest reception on Tommy’s side. Later, Kim and Aisha are talking, and Aisha says that she’s suspicious of Billy knowing something. Kim brushes it off, but oh boy. We know better.

Meanwhile, Lord Zedd appears to be dead from the Chaos Crystal explosion. The generals are talking about possibilities and Baboo explains that maybe they need to work while Zedd is incapacitated for fear of Zedd waking up and destroying them for their failure as the Dark Rangers. This leads to the launch of one of my new favorite monsters: Pandamonium. I love the name, the design, everything. This monster is pure perfection. I do also love this little bit from the construction workers:

The Rangers go to fight Pandamonium, who has orders to destroy the Rangers, and the green one in particular. Well, the Green Ranger shows up, helps take down the monster and the Putties. Sadly, they don’t seem like much of a team player and are able to use the Dragon Dagger to dispose of Pandamonium. The Rangers try extending a hand of friendship, but are met with cold silence. Oh, Alpha also confirms that Drakkon is still in his cell during the fight. Maybe I wasn’t wrong about Violet being the new Green Ranger.

Back on the moon, the villains are worried their plan didn’t work. Baboo then reveals he has a potion that will allow them to sacrifice one of their lives to revive Zedd, but it’s at this exact moment that Zedd emerges claiming the Chaos Crystal has helped given him more energy and given him new purpose.

The final story follows Bulk, Skull, and Candice. Candice is Skull’s new girlfriend, and she seems nice. Sadly, Bulk is a jerk to her. Skull is done dealing with it and explains that he loves Candice and so Bulk needs to learn to deal with her around. However, much later after a fancy dinner date, Candice walks into a dark alley and we learn the truth. She is from Eltar! What!?

What are your thoughts on Mighty Morphin #1? I loved it!
