Let's Talk About MIGHTY MORPHIN #15

The Eltarian War only has a few more issues across Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers. In Mighty Morphin #15 we have Zords fighting Empyreals, Zordon fighting Lord Zedd, and more! I’ve gone ahead and included the preview for the issue below the synopsis but above the spoiler break when my thoughts for the issue will be shared. The comic is written by Ryan Parrott with art by Marco Renna, colors by Walter Baiamonte with assistance by Sharon Marino, and letters by Ed Dukeshire. The issue is available now with a main cover by InHyuk Lee and variants by Goñi Montes, Eleonora Carlini, Christian Ward, and Lee.

Wow. So, there are a lot of fights happening at the same time and so that’s more or less how we’re going to break things down. We’ll focus first on the Rangers using their Zords and Megazords to fight the Empyreals. They seem to be able to hold the Empyreals off, but can’t overpower them. Interestingly, the Omega Rangers aren’t combining into their Megazord. Tommy’s using the White Tigerzord Battle Mode to distract one of the Empyreals while Matt uses the Dragonzord to have an underwater battle with another. The other Rangers pull out the Thunder Megazord and it is just what they need so that Tommy and Matt can combine into the White Tiger Dragonzord. I swear, this is the exact thing that many fans dreamed of but never expected to ever see.

Something to make note of is that during the fight, the Empyreals actually become free of Zartus. This happens when Zedd’s Generals as I’ll call them and Zelya fight the Sentry Force Four. Some of the SFF appear to be having doubts about what is happening. Zelya pleads with Zeta to step aside and help bring down Zartus, but they reveal that they have no spine and only obey orders. Zartus tries acting all high and mighty at this point, but Grace jumps out of nowhere with the Dragon Dagger and uses it to break the crystal Zartus was using to control the Empyreals. This does weaken them a little, but it also frees them which has Zartus panic and teleport out of there because he’s a chicken. Now, he’s going to grab the Zeo Crystal which was his Plan B. Oh boy…that’s not gonna be too problematic, is it?

Finally, the fight between Lord Zedd and Zordon. This is something that I have been looking forward to for a while now. The two are fairly evenly matched in terms of skill and all throughout, Zedd keeps blaming Zordon for everything. During this conversation, Zordon keeps trying to explain to Zedd that it wasn’t him that did all this; it was Zartus! Zordon gets it and can’t see why Zedd can’t comprehend this. Well, it probably has to do with millennia of believing something and having it drive you that makes you just a little hesitant to just drop that belief and turn on the person you thought saved you. The fight is cool to see and one of the great things about comics is that you can have awesome action sequences and understand everything the characters say.

Overall, this is a very action-heavy issue and it has me excited. I’m interested to see if Zedd will agree to a truce with Zordon to fight Zartus (I feel like a fight between all 3 is inevitable). I also am dying to know what Finster’s special mission is. We haven’t seen anything about that yet! Will the Rangers skip their Ninja powers and go straight to Zeo? Maybe we’ll find out after this arc.
