Let's Talk About MIGHTY MORPHIN #4
Mighty Morphin #4 hit comic book store shelves today and it finally answers the question of who the new Green Ranger is. We also have a couple other surprises, but before we discuss that, this is your spoiler warning. Mighty Morphin is written by Ryan Parrott with art by Marco Renna and colors by Walter Baiamonte. You can get physical copies through your local comic shop or digital copies through outlets including comiXology (affiliate link).
The UNLIMITED POWER era continues with the answer to the question everyone's asking -- Who Is The New Green Ranger? And what is their shocking connection to the Mighty Morphin team? It's the last page shocker that no fan can miss!
I’m going to skip what we saw about Zordon’s past in the preview and get to when the Rangers are in some serious trouble. Zedd’s new Chaos Putties are really working them. Rocky and Adam try fending some of them off the Thunder Megazord while the others repair it, but are eventually forced back inside with Putties following. They then get teleported out of there and to the Command Center.
Meanwhile, Bulk, Skull, and Candice are hiding. Skull is knocked out, and Bulk is mad at Candice as he believes that she’s cheating on Skull. Candice tries defending herself, and right as Skull wakes up, she disappears. Not the best look.
Something I wanted to go back and talk about is that during the fight, the Green Ranger shows up with the Dragonzord to fight Putty Prime. Grace talks for the Green Ranger and they team up with Tommy piloting the White Tigerzord. Unfortunately, Zedd’s Putties are able to best them and right when all hope is lost, Tommy and the others get teleported back to the Command Center. This is when we start seeing reveals. Candice reveals that she’s the one that teleported everyone to the Command Center and she’s really Zelya of Eltar. Her mission is to make sure that the Power Rangers survive “at all costs.” Zordon seems a little confused and maybe even miffed that he was not in on any of this though.
Next, Zedd has gained a lot of ground and sets up some kind of energy barrier around Angel Grove. He talks to his generals about how they each have a role, so that’s going to be interesting to see unfold. Meanwhile, Grace doesn’t seem very happy. The Rangers are not able to teleport back into the city and they do the whole “we shouldn’t of left” bit. Then, the big reveal.
The Green Ranger sends out a little message in hopes of keeping the people of Angel Grove calm in these bad times. To help them feel safe, they decide to reveal their identity. Who should it be? Matthew Cook! I really should have seen this one coming. I’m a little sad that it wasn’t Violet Arias, but Matt does make a lot of sense. There’s no way that he’s going to not have any problems at all with Tommy at some point in the future.
OK. So, where do we go from here? Well, it seems like this is the point where we transition to the Ninjetti powers from season 3 of the television series. The Thunder Zords are pretty much destroyed and clearly, their powers aren’t up to snuff. However, I would love it if Parrott had a smarter solution to resolve this that didn’t just happen from the Rangers getting new powers. What do you think is going to happen?
