Let's Talk About MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #43

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #43 is now available at your favorite place to get comics. The issue continues the “Necessary Evil” story and is another knock out of the park. There’s a little action, but then it delves a bit more into the drama and honestly almost made me cry. Without further ado, here’s what happens.

MMPR #43 starts with what we saw in the preview. Dayne decimates the Rangers and leaves them downtrodden with Tommy in really bad shape. Cut back to the planet Breel where the Omega Rangers are looking for other empowered beings who could potentially join their cause. Once again, the Rangers end up are able to read each other’s minds which makes Zack very uncomfortable because he finds Queen Adriyel very attractive. Well, the morph and fight a bunch of the guards. I actually find it funny when Trini says, “…and no, the evil queen is not hot.” Interestingly enough, Jason says that when he got hit it reminded him of fighting Lord Drakkon which does not bode well.

Let’s go back to Dayne and Lord Zedd who is very confused as to why Dayne didn’t kill the Power Rangers during their fight. Dayne explains that it wouldn’t have accomplished their real goal of defeating Zordon. Instead, by breaking their spirits, they’ll eventually be able to take out Zordon and not just the Power Rangers. This is some next-level thinking and Zedd appreciates it, offering Dayne double his payment. Of course, Dayne knows he’s valuable and so then corrects Zedd by saying that his payment will be tripled, not doubled before heading to a park.

Now, back to the Omega Rangers. We finally meet Cavotus who is an empowered the queen has been using to destroy ships and murder people. Between the Rangers and Cavotus, the queen is…killed? It looks like her neck may snap, so I’m going to count her as dead. They get her back to Safehaven where the Blue Emissary is a bit of an extremist. He sentences Cavotus to the vault with all of the Omega Rangers saying that he shouldn’t be. Even Kiya pipes up and says that she should be locked up if the criteria is that the empowered has killed someone. I’m really coming to like Kiya a lot and I swear that with each issue, I trust the Blue Emissary less and less.

Finally, we hit the emotional pocket of the episode (if the whole Cavotus story didn’t already get to you). Trini is checking her voicemail (how does she get cell reception where she is? That’s incredible!) and there’s one from Kimberly back on Earth who basically bears everything out. She’s worried about Tommy, she’s worried about them fighting Dayne again after how expertly he destroyed them last time, and she misses her friends. This is something that I’m sure many of have felt at some point. Of course, the final panel of the episode has the classic frustrated line “Just call me when you can, okay?” and an image of Dayne jamming his laser sword staff thing into the chest of the Thunder Megazord which I could’ve sworn is where the cockpit is. I’m getting really worried guys.

MMPR #43 was an intense issue and I need #44 right now! I don’t know if I can wait any longer. What were your thoughts reading the issue?
