Let's Talk About MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #47
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #47 just dropped today and oh boy. There’s a lot to unpack in this issue, and there’s no way to avoid spoilers. So, if you haven’t read the issue yet, just stop reading now and come back once you have.
The issue starts with Kiya trying to convince Dayne to join her side, and he doesn’t seem completely onboard. My first thought is that Kiya seems to have really gone off the deep end by now. Second, I don’t know that she should be trusting Dayne so much. I would not be surprised if he betrayed her.
Jump on over to Earth and Jason is not in the best of shape, but he’s recovering. Meanwhile, the Power Rangers are understandably pissed at the Omega Rangers. There’s are a lot of trust issues coming up, and Trini and Zack are doing their best to not destroy space and time, but that’s not satisfactory to anyone except Zordon. The anger is palpable as I read any of Kimberley’s line and then when you see Tommy towards the end. Oof, that is just rough. The Rangers have to teleport to stop Goldar though, and Trini and Zack are able briefly get Zordon up to speed without telling him too much.
The fight with Goldar is pretty interesting because he turned a school bus into a fighting cat-like creature called Beastbus, so the Rangers have to save their classmates that are trapped inside which poses some problems. Then, you’ve got Tommy fighting Goldar in a pretty cool fight. Goldar is of course using Lord Zedd’s staff and gets a good hit or two in before Tommy defeats him and seemingly destroys the staff. Oh, and the bus monster also has some friends called Murdercycles. Yes, some fun jokes were made. Everything is pretty par for the course though as Goldar escapes, Beastbus and the Murdercycles are defeated, and the Rangers’ classmates are saved.
Back at the Command Center, Kim and Trini are waiting for Jason to wake up when Adam, Aisha, and Rocky say they’ll go with Trini and Zack to do what they can. They head out and eventually Jason comes to with Alpha, Billy, Kimberley, and an extremely pissed off Tommy looking at him.
Dayne is looking for something while Kiya tries rallying the Empowered that she and the Omega Rangers had previously found and relocated. She gives a speech about how they were treated poorly and now’s the time to fix that. I’m sure some people will join her, but it appears that there are plenty who will not and may help the Rangers instead?
Finally, Aisha confronts Trini as they’re traveling in Space to their destination to check out some powerful readings Xi had found. Aisha is worried that she was only ever seen as a temporary Ranger to hold Trini’s place while Trini did the Omega Ranger bit. Trini does her best to assure Aisha that she, Adam, and Rocky are not merely temporary. However, due to the trust issues that are happening this issue, it is completely understandable. The issue ends with this little excursion being a trap and the Rangers getting attacked.
Holy cow is there a lot going on and I absolutely love it!
