Let's Talk About MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #50

It’s the end of an era. The Necessary Evil storyline in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has come to an end. This story was fantastic, and I’m pumped to see what happens in the future. If you haven’t read Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #50, you can get it from your local comic shops or through digital outlets like comiXology.

This issue sees the Rangers fighting for their lives, waiting for Ranger Slayer to come through with their Hail Mary. In order to get an upper hand against Dayne, Aisha has the brilliant idea of changing everything up on him. The Rangers start swapping weapons and doing everything they can that’s different from what he may have seen, and it seems to actually work.

Meanwhile, Tommy uses the Tigerzord to join the fight against Garrison who’s piloting the Blue Omega Zord. He’s not doing well at all. However, we then learn that the Omega Zords can combine with any Zord, and we get the Red Tigerzord which is sick! It’s able to hand Garrison’s butt to him. Then, the Hail Mary comes through. Ranger Slayer got the Solar Rangers to come to our universe and they’re able to cut Kiya and the Anointed from the Morphin Grid. This causes them to lose their powers and get the Rangers back on the winning side.

Trini is the one to confront Kiya, and its amazing. Trini saying that she’s done trying to help Kiya redeem herself is just amazing! After the fight, Jason lets the Anointed choose what they’re going to do: return home or start a new life on Safehaven. We then have goodbyes as the Solar Rangers and Ranger Slayer return to their own universes, and it’s teased there’s a new Solar Ranger! The Omega Rangers and the Mighty Morphin Rangers are then talking via a video call, and everything’s great.

Well, sort of. You see, during the fight, Dayne freed Zedd before peacing out, and the epilogue we get features Zedd planning his revenge. He is holding a serpent that then becomes his staff (what!?) and then he says that his revenge will have to wait after seeing the comet. The Rangers are watching for the comet, and it lands close to them. After the dust clears, the Rangers have their weapons drawn and at the ready when we see someone who looks similar to Tommy but with face markings. Thoughts? All he says is “They’re coming.” Who is this new “they?” Who is this strange man?

We know that the Dark Rangers are coming. The cover for MMPR #53 gave that away. However, I can’t help but feel that this messenger is referring to something else. Maybe I’m wrong? My other thought is the Machine Empire, but we still haven’t hit the Ninja Rangers yet. We’re still in Thunder Rangers era. I do think he looks too much like Tommy to not be connected to him. He’s probably Tommy from an alternate universe.

I want to backtrack a little and give a shout out to the humor of this issue. I really appreciated when Adam was talking to Xi about getting backup. Xi’s line is absolutely amazing, and I’m going to miss that robot.
