Let's Talk About MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #54

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #54 is here, and it is really setting things up for the split in the comics to Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers. MMPR #54 is written by Ryan Parrott and features art by Moisés Hidalgo. You can grab a physical copy from your local comic shop or get a digital copy from outlets like comiXology.

While the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers battle Lord Zedd's DARK RANGERS, the Omega Rangers come face to face with an all new enemy – one that threatens to destroy all life in the galaxy… and already has a head start!

This issue is probably a perfect setup for when the comic splits. The Omega Rangers get their butts handed to them via the Empyreal. I’m guessing Empyreal is more of a species instead of this unique character’s name. They refer to themselves as part of a “we” having killed an Emissary (the red one). So, the Empyreal are really bad news. The Omega Rangers barely make it out, and it’s a miracle Xi didn’t get destroyed.

You can tell that the Rangers are scrambling to be able to do something in the fight. Eventually, the stakes get raised to the point where they call in their Zords, and even then, they struggle. Troubling enough, Empyreal says he’s seen previous Omega Rangers and the current trio aren’t as good. That’s got to be a blow to the self-esteem.

At the end, Jason talks about going back to Earth to talk to Zordon, and I’m sure things are going to go terribly. We know from the synopsis of Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers that there are going to be disagreements between the Omega Rangers and the Power Rangers. There’s going to be some conflict. The question is, what will it be? I’m sure Drakkon will have some role in it, even if I’m not sure what that role is. Maybe Drakkon will become a new Omega Ranger. Surely, they won’t stay a trio the entire time. They used to be four after all and many Ranger teams are 5-6 members. I’m just saying.
