Let's Talk About ONCE & FUTURE #11

Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora have dropped Once & Future #11, and I am here for it! The comic just gets better and better with every issue. If you haven’t read it yet, you can grab a copy from your local comic shop or through digital outlets like comiXology.

Revenge is the greatest motivator and Gran and Duncan have awakened the ire of the mother of all monsters…

Picking up from where we left off at the preview, Duncan has to fight Grendel to save Bridgette from certain death. Unfortunately, the guns that Duncan brought are all in the taxi that just crashed into the beast, and Duncan gets separated from the taxi. Oops. Well, thinking quick while almost getting eaten, Duncan grabs the knife that Bridgette had already embedded in Grendel’s mouth and uses it to escape. Meanwhile, Bridgette grabs a chainsaw and removes one of Grendel’s limbs. The beast then runs off to bleed out.

Then, there’s a lot of cleanup. The police show up and that causes problems. Plus, Bridgette tries getting the other old people to forget about everything. Most of them seem to be going for it, but then one mentions that Grendel’s mother is coming and they die right there as the mother arrives. Oh crap.

This brings me to my complaint about the episode. Why is Beowulf on the cover? He’s not in the issue! I get that it’s amazing art from Mora, but it feels a little misleading. What do you think? Am I just being dumb about this? Could it be foreshadowing for the next issue?
