Let's Talk About ONCE & FUTURE #13

Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora’s Once & Future #13 is now officially available to read. I really do enjoy this comic series and recommend it to a lot of my friends. The story is intriguing, and the artwork is incredible. Well, the latest issue is definitely no picnic, but if you haven’t read it yet, this is your spoiler warning. You can purchase your physical copy from local comic shops or digital copies through outlets including comiXology.

We start off with the omen that Bridgette receives in the preview, and Duncan says that he’ll call Rose and have her do a reading. Well, Rose is actually right there as it appears the two are becoming a couple. She does a reading and nothing shows up, so they go on a date. The next morning they go to visit Bridgette and sort things out. It looks like the caretakers are still a little shook and not quite sure what’s going on from when Grendel attacked the home.

Bridgette has been looking over her notes and figures they have two leads. They need to find either Lancelot or the Nazis that Mary was working with back in the first issue. There are also some things we learn, like Duncan has been going around fighting monsters a lot, and Bridgette makes a quip about pretending not to know the two are dating. Back to the two leads, Rose mentions that in the morning she got a strong reading at a bar called The Lancelot Arms, and the group decides to go there assuming they’d learn about Lancelot. Once they show the barkeeper a picture of Mary (or Elaine or any of the other names she has), he calls over some friends who turn out to be some very angry Nazis.

It’s at this point we learn that Duncan can beat up monsters, but humans are a bit much for him. The Nazis really want to find Mary, much like our small band of heroes, and are willing to get very violent. However, some ghostly guy ends up barging in saying he’s the Green Knight. This is going to be interesting. We know that Arthur raised Gawain from the dead, and there’s a story about the Green Knight and Gawain. Oh, also, did I mention that this issue is taking place on New Year’s Eve? From what I can find about the story of the Green Knight, that’s the same day that that particular story starts. Oh boy. Are we going to be getting Morgan soon? There’s no way that will end poorly.
