Let's Talk About ONCE & FUTURE #4
The other day, Once & Future #4 released and I once again loved it. The comic is written by Kieron Gillen with art from Dan Mora. If you haven’t read the issue from BOOM! Studios, there are spoilers ahead, so stop reading this now.
If you remember the piece about the preview, we saw some interesting panels. These included some men walking up to Rose as well as Bridgette getting ready to shoot Galahad. Well, it turns out that Duncan will not condone shooting Galahad and prevents his grandmother from doing so. The problem is that the shot still goes off alerting everyone to their presence. Oops. Well, they run out and thankfully, Rose wasn’t in too much trouble yet. Before Rose is able to snuff out the candle, we see the undead knights come out and kill the guards that had approached them. I’m guessing that snuffing the candle was key to keeping them out of our world, at least at that location.
Well, apparently Galahad has to go to the castle of a Fisher King, so that’s where everyone goes. I think it’s awesome how on the way there, Bridgette says that Rose is like M from James Bond. I like how they’re bonding. During the ride, Bridgette also lets on that she knows a lot more about the Fisher King than she maybe originally let on.
They get to a house and start shooting at an old man. There’s some yelling and Galahad and an undead knight show up. They try shooting at them, but the undead knight is able to stop the bullets well enough. Galahad then goes through a door that ends up being a portal to another world seemingly. Duncan then feels tingles and Bridgette says, “It’s the call of destiny.” Apparently, only Duncan is going on the mission to stop Galahad and that’s when Rose plays Sherlock and is able to put things together that things are not as they seem.
The Fisher King then reveals that he’s Bridgette’s husband! WHAT!? They have a little spat about their differences and it’s brought up that Duncan’s middle name is Percy (like Percival). His grandfather says that it was basically a contingency plan for Bridgette. He then blows his own brains out so that Duncan doesn’t have a Fisher King. Bridgette then says some heartbreaking words and that’s the issue.
This was a very intense issue of the series and I’m wondering what they’re going to do. Is there another Fisher King? What makes one a Fisher King? Also, is anyone else loving Rose? She’s freaking awesome.
