Let's Talk About ORIGINS #1
Origins #1 is officially out, and it’s interesting. The comic comes from the minds of Arash Amel, Lee Krieger, and Joseph Oxford and is brought to life by writer Clay McLeod Chapman and artist Jakub Rebelka. If you’re into survivalist sci-fi stories, this might just be right up your alley. You can find physical copies at your local comic shop or digital copies through retailers like comiXology.
A thousand years after humans are killed off by artificial intelligence, one man is brought back to life - David Adams, who created the technology that destroyed his people. Now with the help of the android Chloe who revived him, David will try to restore humanity - and stop the AI overlords he created. David embarks on the greatest battle of his life, seeking redemption while also discovering if humanity can - or should - have any kind of future. A new sci-fi epic for fans of Little Bird and Descender from acclaimed writer Clay McLeod Chapman (Absolute Carnage: Separation Anxiety) and illustrator Jakub Rebelka (Judas), based on a concept by Arash Amel (A Private War), Joseph Oxford (Me + Her), and Lee Toland Krieger (The Age of Adaline).
This is definitely a comic that will take a few issues to really tell if I’m into it or not. The world has definitely gone to crap for humans and we have a woman looking for a child. The child then seems to grow up and seems to be the key to everything. I honestly felt like this issue was too short. It didn’t seem to really explain anything and I’m worried that this is going to be a pattern for this series.
We do see that something infects plants and then that’s able to somehow be used by The Network. The Network are hunting David, and it appears that they may finally have found him. I’m still a little confused at who Chloe is supposed to be. She’s the one that I guess raised David, although that’s still a little confusing to me. Also, she doesn’t seem to have aged a day between the shots of the past and the present.
What did you think of Origins #1? Do you think that it’ll be worth it in the end?
